The duration of therapy is a process which is not necessarily generalisable. The timing required depends upon each individual and is determined collaboratively between therapist and client. However, the general set up under the mental health care plan is 10 sessions per calendar year. A person may wish to attend more or fewer sessions. Because endings can bring up important feelings and reflections, concluding therapy is a shared decision and is usually phased in gradually to support a smooth, natural transition.
